Celebrating National Record Store Day!

For the past eighteen years, record stores would see an influx on one specific day, Record Store Day. No doubt, major album releases, listening parties, live performances, in-store sign ins, they all bring in a crowd, but nothing compares to what Record Store can do! So, what in the world is Record Store Day? In an effort to bring more attention and support to independent record stores, several artists and labels release special CDs and vinyl records that are released on the day, at a very limited quantity. The releases can be anything from special editions of an album, singles, live albums, resurfaced demos, b-sides, and anything else! This year, record store day is taking place on April 18th.
Every year since its conception, the event continues to grow with support from artists, businesses, labels, and anyone else interested interested/involved in the music industry! The event celebrates the history of purchasing music in a physical format, but it’s also served as a hub of information for folks to learn more about the music industry! Record Store Day has used its platform to highlight independent businesses, talk about upcoming releases, offer free courses for musicians and business owners, and just give a general insight into the music industry!
Physical media is quietly making a return, generations young and old are either dusting off their old collections or just beginning their collection again or for the first time ever! Record Store Day is a great opportunity for anybody to explore new musicians or to collect something unique! In the U.S alone, Record Store Day generated over 1.2 million album sales! Did we mention that this isn’t exclusive only to the U.S? It’s gone worldwide, with musicians from other parts of the world even making releases exclusively for their regions!

Here at FiberFirst, we’re all fans of music and really admire the local community that shows up each year for this event. Which is why we reached out to our local record stores and asked how we could help support their efforts. For some of our markets, this is the second year in a row we’ll participate with our local record stores! To learn more about the event, see this year’s list of releases, and find a record store near you, visit recordstoreday.com!
